It’s over

February 2, 2008 – 12:16 am
I haven't been here for some time, because I've had other things to occupy my time. I just wanted to post that my friend Gene - the man that was given three to five months to live - passed away on Wednesday morning. His pain is over and he is free. Blessed Imbolc to all. Please find peace. Remember your Pagan brothers and sisters. Remember who we are.

And here’s the second one

December 20, 2007 – 7:12 pm
I recently posted up about a friend of mine that is in the process of dying from complications due to diabetes. He's been given three to five months to live, and it's been very hard on his family and all of us as we have watched his faculties fail and his body betray him. Today I learned that a dear friend of mine passed away a couple of weeks ago from lung cancer. He had moved to another state and his contact with us was infrequent at best. Evidently he had learned he had cancer in May. He never told us. I know we had talked to him after he found out, and every other week someone would ask if anyone had heard from him. Maybe this was his way of trying to spare us the pain of his death - he was always so ...

Not frozen yet!

December 15, 2007 – 11:57 pm
We've been anticipating much snow and ice here in our humble home, but right now we are zero for two in the prediction category, much to my chagrin. I was really hoping for a real snow storm and 24 hours ago, we were supposed to be getting up to ten inches of snow. Ten inches! Do you know how long it's been since we had that much snow? Neither do I! Yet, here we are, a full day later with one whole inch on the ground. Bleh. Global warming sucks.

Woohoo! Makin’ stuff!

November 27, 2007 – 6:59 pm
The season has definitely changed, and I'm in the mood to make stuff! I and my friends have already pitched a batch of mead for Yule (and we recorded it here!), and I'm working on a set of runes, made from the branch of a redbud tree that I thought was surely dead from the ice storm last winter. But lo and behold! Like the phoenix, she sprang to life again this past spring, and now she has many new branches, strong and supple. (By the way, the branch I'm using is one that was knocked down during the ice storm.) After that, I feel the urge to make a couple of new staffs and maybe even a new robe. It's been a while, and I'm due something pretty, . . .

Some concern

November 21, 2007 – 10:06 pm
It's come to my attention recently that there is some unease with my being here at Pagan Nation. That is certainly not my intent at all. I'm here to learn. According to the statement at the front page of Pagan Nation, "Pagan Nation is dedicated to facilitating exchange between Pagan, Heathen, Wicca, Neopagan, Asatru, Goddess, Reconstructionists, Thelemic, and other Free Thinkers and Rethinkers." I would hope I fall into that category somewhere or another. My intent here is to learn and understand other Pagan communities from other locations in this country of ours. How can we ever hope to become a spirituality or religion of strength if we continue to tear each other down? How can we ever know the truth if we don't bother to learn about each other? I know there are questions about myself and my teachings and upbringings. I ...

Learning from Pagan Communities

November 14, 2007 – 6:35 pm
I was told about this group in Florida that has a couple of gathering a year. They are called Florida Pagan Gatherings, and their website is here. I’ve only been on their egroup for a few weeks, but I gotta say, I’m really impressed! There’s a large number of people that are involved with the conversations and they are discussing a large number of subjects right now, mostly with the success of their most recent gathering over Samhain. Their gatherings are good-sized, around 600 from what I understand, yet these people are able to have civil conversations about their work without throwing any nasty comments about individuals or other groups or anything like that. Our Pagan community here in Springfield, MO isn’t what I’d call “huge” or anything like that, but it’s pretty good-sized. We’ve got several universities so our student population is pretty good and ...

Stepfather arrested after dead girl found in cave - developing story

November 9, 2007 – 11:55 pm
I hate this. All of us are sick about the developments that are coming out about this evil. This is our home. I cannot even begin to describe what everyone in the Ozarks is going through right now. The energy is chaotic at best. More as it develops. *************update******************** Here is the latest on the story from CNN and our local paper.

The Runic Workbook: Understanding and Using the Power of Runes

November 9, 2007 – 5:10 pm
Ok, first off, I'm not Asatru, but I am Celtic. I realize a lot of the Kindred don't care for this book, and that's fine, but considering someone once handed me Ralph Blum's ridiculous little book (which I now use for a coaster), this was a big step forward for me. I love using runes, and I found this book to be very informative as to learning their meanings and casting them to read. It's good for beginners and includes a series of exercises for "getting to know your runes!" Unfortunately, I loaned my copy out some years ago to a friend and never got it back. Bad Pagan, no mead. My next rune book will most likely be this one by Edred Thorsson. I enjoy his work and I haven't seen many bad reviews of his books.

Hitting a wall

I'm somewhat bummed currently - my pet rat Dave has passed on, so I'm a little unmotivated.
